Gift Ideas for Geeky Dads

Are you a member of a fandom? Star Trek? Star Wars? Minecraft? Doctor Who?

Well, if you know any dads out there who are members of a fandom and don't know what to give/buy them for the upcoming Father's Day, then you might want to check out what I have in store for you. Well, it's not in the literal sense that I have these things in store. But you know what I mean, right?

Here are some items that I thought are pretty cool to own if you know are/or know a geek dad.

I know my husband is a sucker for torch lighters and if only he was a sucker for Minecraft, I know exactly what to give to him. So, if you're really running out of ideas, check out ThinkGeek.com. They really do have awesome and cool stuff.

More Birthdays To Come

5 days more to go for April! And that means a huge dent on the pockets because it's another big birthday month. Both my mom and my son will be celebrating their birthdays. My son will be 8 years old this year and I don't know if he wants to throw a party to invite his friends or not. He's never had a "party" with his own friends. But what I really know would make his birthday is bringing him to Universal Studios in Singapore. Especially now that the Transformers ride is open, he's been harping on it day and night.

But we'll see about that. Have to check mommy's "special coffers" for that! Haha!

As for my mom, I am planning to call her florist and order her a beautiful floral arrangement. Because if there's something my mother loves more than her children and grandchildren, it's a nice bouquet of flowers. She used to have fresh flower arrangements delivered to the house every 2 weeks when my dad was still around. And my dad also used to send surprise bouquets to her all the time. (Hope she doesn't read this post!)

But the florists here, as much as they can make beautiful arrangements, the types of flowers they have are really limited and if you want something more special, it'll take longer (to order) and more expensive and it's just really tedious. If we were overseas, it would be spring right now and the flowers in bloom would be so gorgeous that you don't even have to spend a bundle on flowers.

Aren't they just gorgeous?? I loooooove it and I know my mom will too! If only they could whip me something like this for a price that won't burn a whole in my wallet all through to my bag.

Anyways, these are all just plans. I need to think of Plan B just in case this plan doesn't fall through. :)

Birthdays All Around

For the next few months, I've got to really plan my expenses well considering there are a couple of birthdays coming up. My husband's birthday is in March, my mom and my son's birthday is in April and my birthday is in May. Not that I'm gonna get myself anything but I have a hankering to "buang tebiat" and throw a birthday party. I mean, it IS my last birthday of my 20s.

I still have no idea what to get for the hubby or my mom for that matter. Their birthdays are about 2 weeks apart. And my mom and my son are 2 weeks apart. If only I had personal creations coupons right now, my job would be so much easier. Getting personalized gifts are always a winner!

Any sponsors want to sponsor me gifts? hahaha

Gift for Dad

Next month is my husband's birthday. I don't know what to give him. Last year, I forgot his birthday. BUT, I did make it up to him by giving him awesome corner grandstand seats to watch the F1 race in Sepang, with the help of my best friend, Moose. So this year, I don't wanna bug Moose and ask him if he can score me more tix, and I know it will be hard to top the gift last year.

Sooooo, I think right now, instead of thinking of what I should get him, I could help the kids with THEIR gift for dad. It's easier, cheaper and I'm sure my husband would love whatever THEY give him. I know he'll love whatever I give him and I know he'll love me even if I don't give him anything. But still, I feel the pressure. Any ideas??

Mother's Day Countdown

There are 5 days, 23 hours and 51 minutes left until Mother's Day!! As of this moment. This year's Mother's Day is on May 8th, 2011 (Sunday). I won't be able to be with my mom on this day but since she was just here recently, at least we got to spend mother-daughter-grandchildren time.

My mom and my daughter, Allie

I saw a lot of unique and customized gifts for Dad online, but Father's Day is way ahead in June. So let's just concentrate on moms right now, shall we?

I was bloghopping over at Multiple Mayhem Mamma and she wrote about 5 Gifts That Moms Really Want for Mother's Day! It was such a good read and I have to agree with every bit of it. :)

Basically, in the list, what we moms want are:

1) Time Off
2) A Cleaning Service
3) Personal Chef
4) Laundry Person
5) A Personal Shopper

So true! So husbands, why don't you go to the maid service and get your wife a maid for a day! LOL! :)

Personalized Trinkets for Giveaways

I've been thinking about having a giveaway of some sort here on My Sweet Escape.. The last giveaway I ever made was over at my fashion blog, The Accidental Fashionista, where I gave away a Victoria's Secret triple pack lip gloss... and that was like YEAAARRRRSSS ago.

Last time I used to give away trinkets to my top commentors and top EC droppers but nowadays, I find it difficult to keep track 'coz I'm just too busy to tally up the winners at the end of the month. I think a couple of my readers got some personal keychains that had my blog avatars on it, right?

If you're looking for a keychain like that, you can check out keychains at Personal Creations! :)

However, I have a bigger prize I plan to give away on MSE but I just don't know WHAT yet. :) Let me think of it, and then I'll be sure to let you guys know, ok? :) But when I say something BIGGER, please don't think MacBook or iPad. LMAO!

Let me put on my thinking cap and we'll see how it goes then, aighhhhtt?? :)

Time For Christmas Shopping

In the month of December, it's not only Christmas we've got to think about. It's the holiday season... and guess what? A lot of people get married during the holidays. In fact, I have a couple of weddings to attend this coming December.

The good thing about it is, you can take advantage of the Christmas sale and get good bargains for wedding gifts. However, the other side of it is, you have to shop for wedding gifts and Christmas gifts as well.

I don't know about you guys, but buying presents for everyone all at once feels a little bit stressful at the end of the day because you see your cash depleting with good measure. So to rid you of your possible future financial anxiety attack, it's time to start planning what to get for your loved ones now.

I saw some Egyptian Cotton Luxury sheets for sale at LuxorLinen.com the other day and I believe it's the perfect gift for both weddings and Christmas. You can't go wrong with bed linens and you can even have it personalized by having initials monogrammed. The Valentino 1200 Thread Count Egyptian Cotton sheets comes in so many shades (pic above), I wouldn't know which one to pick if I were to get one. Big IF.

I know my mom would love some new bed linens. Remember the time when my mom's bed arrived from KL and we couldn't find super-king sized sheets in KK? Most of the brands just carry up to king size but luxury linens always cater for bigger sized beds.

It may be expensive, but the Black Friday deals are giving discounts between 50%-80%! Awesome price. International shipping may cost a lot though. I wish I can afford it soon because mommy deserves the best.. and it will look sooooooo good on her Thomasville bed..

But that means I have to get one for my sister too. She inherited our old four poster Thomasville bed and it's super king too. -_-"

Gifts For Dad

Father's Day is less than a month away.. (20th June 2010) and here I am to remind all of you to include a Father's Day gift within your budgets. Father's Day isn't reserved only for your father, but for all the father figures in your life. For me, it's my brothers, my husband, my uncle..

Actually, I was packing some stuff the other day and I found the Father's Day card that I bought my dad the week before Father's Day.. the week he passed away. I thought I threw it away the last time I found it but apparently, I didn't. Father's Day holds a painful memory but it gets better with time.

This Father's day, I'm hoping to treat my husband to something special because he is a great father as well as a great husband and sometimes the children and I take that for granted. So, I hope I get lots of "kaching" to spend at Redenvelope.com! They have a great array of gifts for the men in your lives!

I know my husband will be delighted with these picks!

The Weston Leather Cigar case is perfect for him to store his cigars. This one retails at $59.95 (Yep, he's a cigar man!) But I love this Monogrammed Leather Watch Case as well.. My husband loves watches, and he has a couple in his collection and my mom has also given him one of my dad's old watches which he just absolutely loves! So this would be really great. The leather watch case retails at $49.95! It even has a plaque where you can have his initials engraved! Loves!

So, I'm thinking the leather watch case. What say you?

Get Your Australian Souvenirs!

My mom's sister has been living in Australia for almost 30 years now after marrying my uncle whose an Australian. I remember that every time she came back here to Malaysia for a visit, she'll give my siblings and I, clip on koalas.

Then I begun to notice that whenever friends or family came back from Oz, clip on koalas were the souvenirs of choice. It practically became the trademark Australian souvenir. You can't NOT have one!

One beautiful Australian souvenir that I love is aboriginal art, like this Aboriginal kangaroo art wooden notebook. Not only is it beautifully crafted, it's also an eco-friendly product.

Handmade boomerangs make a great gift too! They're specially crafted and signed by the artist so each and every single one is unique.. and the 12" boomerangs each feature symbolic elements of traditional tribal culture and spiritual beliefs.

I hope that when I make it over to Australia for the holidays, I'll be able to bring back some amazing Australian souvenirs for my blogging buddies. For those just looking to get some souvenirs to add to your collection, AustraliaSouvenir.com has great choices! You might want to check it out!

Move Her World!

Dear Men,

Sometimes, you tell us, "Honey, of course I care about you!" while your eyes are still on the football match on TV or you're too busy maneuvering your "assassin" from being caught in the middle of the busy town of Jerusalem.

So what if we choose to converse with you while you're busy? After all, we women drop whatever we do when you tell us you're hungry and fix you something to eat. And sometimes, "I'm Sorry" just isn't enough either.

But then again, provided you don't have "deeper issues" to deal with, you might be able to redeem yourself by showering your lady love with the perfect gift.. something like heart jewelry perhaps? It doesn't need to be anything extravagant, it can be just something simple like this.

Something to show your appreciation and love for her.. something to let her know that she's more important than your XBOX!

So remember, just shower her with a little token of love and the affection that your lady love will return.... let's just say, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner!

Costume Jewelry Designer

As I do my bloghopping and my daily rounds of EC dropping, I noticed more and more ETSY shops for designer costume jewelry popping up like mushrooms. A lot of people are getting more and more interested in making a business out of their hobby.. and I think that's a great opportunity for work at home moms (WAHM) to keep their income flowing.

I used to do a lot of jewelry designing myself and maybe when I'm confident enough about my handiwork, I might even show it to you guys. Anyways, HolstedJewelers.com is a costume jewelry website with amazing pieces with amazing quality that specializes in rings, earrings, necklaces and pendants, bracelets, watches, pins, fashion accessories personalized items and birthstones. They make great gifts and they're reasonably priced too.

If you're looking for gift for her OR him, this might be the place to stalk!

Looking for the perfect gift...

Usually, for me, starting to shop so early for gifts really gives me a headache. I always find the best of gifts during crunch time! I'm totally a last minute shopper! Like, seriously! But too bad for me, so are the rest of Malaysians.. I guess in whole, we are a bunch of last minute people, ey?

Like last year, I got all my gifts for Hubby, Buddy, Allie, Mom, eldest bro, sis-in-law, other bro, Syura, Seri, and other bro's girlfriend in just 2 hours! And all were under my budget and a year later, they're still using their gifts and happy with it. So you see, I just can't do it early.. or else I'll buy something that's just so-so and in the last days leading up to Xmas, I'll see something better or much more suitable. Does that happen to me or does that happen to the rest of you??

As for Rozie's birthday, I think if I shop now, (her b'day is on the 29th), I'll end up with some self defense products, I think. But on the other hand, I think those will make a pretty good gift, right?

Hmmmmmm....
