Christmas Decoration Idea

Although I don't celebrate Christmas, I do love looking at Christmas decorations. There's just something about lights and Christmas colours that just remind me of a time when I used to celebrate Christmas at my late grandma's and my late uncle Joshua's. My late uncle Joshua was amazing with Christmas decorations. There are like 4 huge trees in his house with different themes! And since the family is pretty extended, there are mountains of Christmas presents under each tree which makes it even more exciting to look at.

Wow, I haven't gone back to Kuching to celebrate Christmas with my uncles and aunts and cousins there in a veeery long time. Yet whenever I see Christmas decorations, they are never far from my mind.

Anyways, if you're bored of your annual Christmas decorations, or having a theme for your Christmas tree and don't know what to do with the rest of the ornaments, probably you can show them off this way!

You don't need even need glue. You just need to find a shadow box or deep frame for this! I know that the RIBBA frame from IKEA is extra deep. It has a 4.5cm depth. If your ornaments don't fit in, any other Christmas decoration will do. Perhaps you want to put in a wreath instead? Or fill it up with candy cane? The options are ENDLESS! And there's nothing like a DIY project that will impress your guests when they come over!

Thanks to 52 Mantels for this wonderful idea! Check out how her nursery turned up!

So easy and so beautiful! Try it yourself!

Perfect Distraction

Tomorrow I'll be headed back home to KL and I've got 1001 things that I really need to do when I get back home. Among some of the things I need to start on is cleaning up my sister's room. Now that she's a married woman, I can turn her room into a guest room so my mom can have a room all to herself when she comes to visit her grandkids.

I can't wait to decorate it and since Allie is using my sister's old mattress (Allie shares a room with Buddy) then I need to get a new good quality Latex foam mattress that doesn't hurt my mom's back. One of those orthopedic types. I hope they don't burn a hole in my wallet, though.

Anyways, with all this planning and work that I have to do, it's the perfect distraction for me.. especially because I get homesick a lot. I really do miss KK when I'm in KL.

Home Sweet Home

We all have our own life to pursue, our own kind of dream to be weaving. And we all have some power to make wishes come true, as long as we keep believing. - Louisa May Alcott

One of my dreams is to own a nice bungalow home -- it doesn't have to be big, but something to call my own. Something that doesn't belong to my husband and I'm just living there because I'm his wife.

Right now I'm living in an apartment unit that is really convenient for the likes of me. There's a supermarket just downstairs, there's lots of restaurants (for those lazy-to-cook days), there's a hair salon, laundry, tennis and squash court, gym, saunda, a pool.. and basically all the amenities that you just won't be able to have by living in a landed property.

I guess that's just the "kampung" girl in me. I want a place with a garden, where the husband can plant his flowers (he's really good at gardening), where I can hang my laundry to dry, where children and pets can run around. I want a place that I can put my own choice of address signs!

Oh and don't forget the mailboxes! Living in an apartment, we get metal mailboxes that are just blah!

I actually check the mailbox only 3 times a month. Beginning, middle and end. But if I had a really nice mailbox, I'd definitely be happy to check my mail!

But until that day comes, I will have to settle for what I have right now. Not that it's a bad thing. I'm content, either way. As long as I have shelter over my head!

The Great Outdoors!

When I went furniture shopping at SSF with my bestie, Ida, the other day, I told her that if I ever were to own a house, I'd really want a townhouse with one of those rooftops.. just like Giuliana and Bill Rancic's first home in Chicago. It was soooo gorgeous, it even had an outdoor fireplace, something like the one below.

Actually there is an area back in my hometown, where my mom's friend is living which have a few 2 and a half-story townhouse units with a rooftop! I would love to get one! Of course, it might set me back some serious kaching AND THEN SOME but hey, I might just try the law of attraction a little bit harder!

Get Your Heat On

For those living abroad, most specifically in the U.S., winter time is just around the corner and time to bring out the jackets, sweaters, gloves, earmuffs and UGG boots. Also, it's time to crank up the heater! I just hope for your sakes that your heaters aren't on the verge of wheezing it's last breath.
ihikhik

But if it is, then you might want to look at these mock Amish fireplaces that's actually a plug in heater.

Check out the specs:
  • High quality mantels with fluted columns, bookmatch veneer, and inlaid border
  • Casters for easy movement – place it anywhere: bedroom, living room, office
    and relocate it easily
  • Comes completely assembled – just plug it in!
  • Provides supplemental heat for spaces up to 400 sq ft (a 20’ x 20’ room)
  • Thermostat controlled for easy comfort
  • Realistic flame effect can be used with or without heat
  • Safe-to-touch glass remains cool – child safety screen covers heater vent
  • Each unit is truly economical operating for 3¢/hr with the flame and 8¢/hr with heat.

They're also really ideal for condominiums, apartments and lofts. So, ready to change your heater??

I Want It Blood Red!

I was looking into some ceramic tiles to feature in my other blog, Never Enough Stuff, and while browsing through some images, I found this really cool bathroom -- in red glass tiles!

I was thinking right.. that IF I were single, I'd probably want a bathroom like this in my bachelorette pad! Seriously, I think it looks pretty HOT! And my girlfriends will all be cramped in there getting ready for a big night out in town! gatai Too bad, we won't see that happening now!

The Cutest Cabin Ever

If you've been following and reading my other blog, Never Enough Stuff, you might remember me posting a drawing of how I want my dream home to be. Anyways, I found this pic of a log cabin and it looked like it just came out from an Enid Blyton story!! It's soooo cute.

It might not be my dream home but if money grew on trees, I think I'd like to own something like this.. just for the pleasure of owning a "fairytale" home. I think I'll ask one of my gf who's working in an architecture firm if they can produce architectural drawings for this.

I'm Just A Dreamer

Ever since I dreamt of a house that I bought, I've been looking at more household stuff online and I really think I should stop before I go crazy and pester my poor hubby into searching for a new home. gatai Okay, so it won't come to that. But hey, a girl can dream. around Hah. How true.

Anyways, near the fireplace (in my dreams, that is) it was rather empty.. so I was looking at furniture and area rugs and I fell in love with this set. love

I'd prefer a not so fragile coffee table (because of the kids) and I may or may not replace those 2 stiff single chairs at the end.. but it does look mighty pretty.. rindu

Oh you know what? Don't mind me.. I'm just thinking out loud again. But yeah, if you're wondering what's going on in my head these past few days, this is it! ihikhik

Houses and Homes

Ever since mom came to visit me this weekend, I just realized how small my apartment is. I think in the next year, my husband and I have to do some serious house hunting. However, I can't really imagine myself living in KL.. why?? Because I love the sea. Here in KL, there's just lots and lots of land.. and concrete.

Of course, I prefer to own a home in my hometown.. which is a seaside town. You can go hiking, mountain climbing, diving, island hopping.. what's not to love??

But for the sake of love, here I am, living in the concrete jungle.. But who knows what the future holds for us, right? kenyit

Houses are made of bricks and stone,
Homes are made of love alone..

We Need Furniture Covers!

Ever since mom came over for the weekend, I have been nothing but busy, busy, busy.. It's Monday already and time for Music Monday and I just noticed that my last post was the previous Monday's MM! Wowww.. it's been quite a while since I last blogged here.

So anyways, before my mom leaves, she wants to go out and get some nice patio furniture covers. You can hardly find any nice ones back home. My mom has a lot of patio sets and with the weather being what it is, she needs to get these covers ASAP!

Getting Cold Feet!

My sis, Syura, and I were talking about our feet the other day.. (yeah, our feet.. we're random like that).. and we came to the conclusion that the porcelain tiles at home is the culprit of us having heel pain. The tiles get cold and in turn make our feet cold and that, in turn, is the root of our problem. gelakguling

Syura did buy us some cute house socks shaped like ballerina flats but I still think that we need some bedroom slippers.

Something like this, perhaps?? I looove the colors!

Funny Thai Commercial!

I know I'm supposed to sleep but once it's past 3am, I have the fear that I won't be able to wake up in time to send my son to school. And what was I doing up until 3am?? Well, I was updating my blogs.. after 10pm is usually the only time I get to concentrate without the kids asking me for something and everything every minute.

So anyways, I was browsing through YouTube, I found this Thai commercial on Sylvania lightbulbs which is pretty freaky but still hilarious at the same time! Check it out!

In love with Moroccan Lamps

Among one of my goals this 2009, (yes, I respond better to the word goal, then resolutions), is to decorate my new abode here in KL. I have a couple of different ideas, and until I reach an agreement with the hubs, I would have to keep on spouting new ideas. After all, he'll be the one to fork out the money for the stuff I need, right?

His vision is more of a Moroccan theme.. which I don't mind particularly. It's just that I feel that it's just an excuse to not buy a sofa, instead, just throw some over-sized colorful cushions on to a rich dark red carpet to surround his "shisha" thingy.

However, I just stumbled upon this Moroccan furniture website, and I'm beginning to think that it's not a bad idea.. this whole Moroccan theme. The Moroccan lamps are just gorgeous! They have everything you need for Moroccan decor.. mirrors, tables, ottomans, bedding, rugs, pillows..

Well, it's just an idea. I'm just worried that after a couple of months, I'll get bored with a theme.. I just want to keep it nice, simple, comfortable and classy.. and probably just get some nice Moroccan lamps to add some "feel" to it.. Yeah, a fusion of culture... *smiles*

Yay! Can't wait to decorate!!
