Back in KK for School Hols

I am back in my hometown of Kota Kinabalu as usual, for the school hols. The last time I came back was in June for the first semester school holidays. Nothing much has changed, which is nice. A smattering of developments are underway but that's about it. I haven't really been going around town after all, it's the school holidays and going to town means getting stuck in the traffic jam. Having been living in KL, I wish to avoid THAT, thank you very much.

I've been back since the 17th, actually. It's been almost 2 weeks since I got back and of course, you can't go back without enjoying yourself at the beach. Loooove going there. It's so calming and the kids always have a great time. The view is so beautiful, I wish I can take it back with me to KL.

Oh and my baby boy Zaidan turned 1 last week! My hubby came over from KL to celebrate and we were so excited about it that no one took a SINGLE picture of his birthday celebration. Oh well.

How time flies. I feel like it was just a couple of months ago that I was sharing my happy news with everyone and now, baby Z is already 1!! Even Allie will be starting primary school next year! That means she's 7 next year and I've had this blog even before I had Allie. Look at how big everyone is. Buddy will be 10 years old next year. Even my kid sister Seri is all grown up. She'll be 21 in 2014! OMG!

Wow. Lots has changed. Regardless, all the changes have made me a better person, and more importantly, happier. Definitely happier. I am so blessed. Alhamdulillah.

Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful end of the year and enjoy the school holidays with your kids!

Much love,

Someone Like Seri

I've been scouring my family's photo albums, the ones online (Facebook and Instagram) for pictures from my sister's wedding last March. Apparently everyone is just too lazy to upload the pics. I have pics in my DSLR but since I don't have a laptop right now, I couldn't upload them yet. But my family.. well, they have NO excuse!

I just want to find a picture of my kid sister karaoke-ing her a$$ off to Adele's Someone Like You and Rolling in the Deep. LOL! It was classic! Thank goodness she didn't use a cloudlifter at musician's friend to use on her microphone. She certainly does not need an additional 25dB. The neighbours would have sued. Hehehe. Sorry Seri! :) But I have to give her props for singing like she just doesn't care! Hahahah that's what I call bravery!!

Although I couldn't find my sister's karaoke debacle picture, I did find a photo of my sister, the bride, that I love. Thanks to my cousin, Azrie (TanganSeni) for taking this pic! :)

2 a.m.

It's 2.30am and I am finally done packing. I can't fall asleep yet so I decided to blog a little. I feel like I've neglected my blogs for far too long and decided to pay them a visit.

If you're wondering why I'm packing, well, as most of you know, there's not a school holiday that goes by that I DON'T go back to my hometown. I MUST go back. That's just the way it is. I get homesick. A LOT. So, it's basically the end of the school holidays and it's time to return to KL tomorrow. My flight is in the morning which is not the norm for me because with 3 kids to handle, I normally prefer an afternoon or evening flight so I don't have to rush.

However, flights are mostly full due to the school holidays and so the only available flight left was in the morning. So I will try my damnedest to get everyone ready and out the door by 9am. Argh!!

Anyways, wish me a safe flight, k??

Ego-mommy-ac

I haven't been doing any shopping whatsoever in soooooo long. I mean, I didn't even buy any pregnant clothes at all last year. I just resorted to wearing my dresses, over-sized Ts, my old empire waisted tops and a pair of leggings. That was about it.

So now that I'm no longer preggers, I'm pretty excited about the prospect of going shopping again! But when I went out recently with my mom, all I saw were winter clothes on display! What a bummer! I mean, the clothes are gorgeous but I hardly need any ski coats for women at this point.

But it's not like I've lost much weight yet, pun. I have lost a bit and I'm looking forward to starting my exercise (can't start too early after giving birth) and just eating more healthily. After all, my sister's wedding is on the 1st of March! And I soooo need to look good. NEED, ok? NEED. It's an ego boost for a mommy of 3. Oh just indulge me, will ya?

When The Going Gets Tough

As most of you well know, I just had a baby recently and needless to say, I pretty much resemble a "Walker" right now. The Walking Dead fans would know what that means.. but here, let me show those of you who don't know.

Yes, sleep deprivation does that to you. I was up pretty much the whole night and although my baby is sleeping NOW and I could join him in dreamland if I wanted to, I chose to wake up early because unfortunately I have lots of work to do. A mommy's job is never done.

Anyways, with so much things to juggle and more responsibilities to think of and so little time, I am trying to get things done before year's end.. which is approximately only 21 days away! Gosh. UNBELIEVABLE. I can't believe the end is near. Not referring to the "Mayans' end" but you know what I mean.

I was supposed to help my mom create a blog too. Yeah, my mom is internet savvy these days and she wants an outlet to share her thoughts as well. Knowing my mom, she'll have a great following. In fact, she has more twitter followers than I do. LOL! She's been reminding me to do it before the baby came, but it was just impossible.

What with my sister's wedding coming up and my baby, and preparing for school to reopen next year, it's just so hectic. So hectic, that I might have to ask my mom to send my mom a tutorial on how to make a free website. I think it's easier that way. Besides, she has to learn how to deal with websites on her own since I won't be here all the time to help her out with it.

I just don't know how other moms do it, sometimes. My mom used to handle 4 little kids (ranging from 2 to 10 years old) while taking her degree, staying on the dean's list, in a country so far from her family and had no other help besides my dad. It's hard, but if you've got to do it, you just do it. I guess it's just time for the tough to get going! I CAN DO THIS!

Ramblings of a Cranky Mama Bear

I seriously need to get my laptop fixed. PRONTO! I cannot take anymore of doing my work at Mailboxes. I love it here because it's quiet. It's a store with postal services, packaging services, sells office supplies, name care printing.. you name it. They also have internet services which are affordable. So yeah, it's not like I'm stuck in some dingy cybercafe with people smoking their lungs out playing some MPG shooting game.

However, it's damn cold right now and my fingers are already freezing and feel like they're falling right off. It doesn't help that I'm hungry because the cold makes me even hungrier than ever, which in turn, makes me absolutely cranky. And while I was browsing the H&M site earlier, it didn't help that I saw some really cute fur vests that I wish I had right now. Just to protect me from the cold. Then I'll stuff it into my cupboard where it will never again see the light of it.

Okay. I need to stop rambling. Like now. And get back to work.

Back Home

In case anyone has been wondering where I've been lately.. well, I've been busy doing my own thang after Hari Raya and by the time I was getting my groove back, I am now back in KK again!!

It's only been 2 weeks since I was last here but due to some things that need to be done here, I hauled my fat ass back here.. (not that I'm complaining). But only for a week. I'll be back on Sunday. In the meantime, I'll be chillaxing with Prince William n Duchess Kate at Danum Valley.. (hahah I wish)!!

Naaahh.. I'll probably just be enjoying the sun, sand and sea..

Till next time... Ciao!

Planning Ahead

I can't believe it's actually August already. I keep on still checking my July calendar. Before long, it's time for the school holidays and then when those are over, gotta think about sending the kids back to school with brand new stuff. Uniforms need to be bought, shoes, stationery (although I seem to be buying those every week or so), and the lot.

It seems like there's a long way to go before it's time to get stressed about all that stuff, but there's just too much going on right now that I need to plan my budget wayyyy ahead.

My son already changed his backpack once this year. My sister insisted on getting him a bag on wheels and that didn't last more than 3 months. So now he's just using a normal laptop bag which is kinda handy but he doesn't seem to think it's cool. I'm thinking of getting him a green Jansport backpack for next year. His favourite color is green and there's no beating Jansport for backpacks. I love mine. Still have it, too.

With weddings going on, Hari Raya celebrations coming up, flight tickets to buy, I've really gotta do proper financial planning pronto.

Mr. DIY

My husband is a DIY person to boot. I don't know whether his DIY attitude stemmed from the fact that he's a frugal person or that he just loves to do things himself. Maybe both. He does the plumbing, electrical wiring, assembling, dismantling, and everything else for us. When we moved, he also assembled the Astro for us so I didn't have to call the installer and pay an extra RM100. He is Mr. DIY.

He has almost every tool imaginable but there are some of his tools that are pretty old and rusty. So when I found www.reidsupply.com I practically did a jig of joy 'coz now I know what to get for him for our anniversary this year.

In fact, I'm getting into this DIY mode myself. I recently even gave the husband a haircut using his hair clipper tools and he just guided me through the motions and he showed me how to handle it when he was cutting our son's hair. He even got praises at his office for his new haircut. Looks like if I ever need a job, I can apply for a men's hair stylist job. LOL!

Doing Nothing

I just realized that it's been a while since I last blogged. I haven't even opened or taken a look at my blog for what seems like ages. That's what happens when I'm back in my hometown. I just can't seem to bring myself to write anything or do anything else than just hang out with my family and stuff myself silly!

Honestly, I haven't even gone out to take a single picture with my new camera. I have exactly another week here and perhaps I'm gonna use that time to take more pictures and meet some friends. I feel bad that I couldn't even make it to my friend's Orkes Akiuku ukelele album launch. Perhaps I can make it up to him and buy him some d'addario strings.

I just feel like I need more time here in KK. How I wish the holidays last longer.... not really looking forward to school reopening. :/

Get Rich or Die Tryin'

I can foresee that this year would require me to save up a lot! There are a lot of plans happening this year that I am excited about but it would also mean being on a stricter budget because a lot of moolah needs to go into making these plans happen and being a stay-at-home mom isn't exactly what you call landing the big bucks.

So, I am doing my best to search for extra ways to make income, some of which are a work in progress and some are just even more plans. Plus, having plans means you need to spend money to make more money.

Gosh, why does it have to be so hard sometimes? Is there a place that exists where I can go mining and dig me out some gold bars?? (Come on you can tell me, I won't tell anyone else! Sharing is caring, remember?) Although at this point of time, even if I get a smidge of silver, it'll be good enough!

Oh well, like they say, Get Rich or Die Tryin'!

My Ever Helpful Neighbour

What with all the gardening I have the husband has been doing, my nosy helpful neighbour has been giving us gardening pointers every chance she can get. Up to the point that I'll only get out to water my flowers when I know she's not around. She can be pretty in-your-face about it too.

There was once when she was telling me how I should use “rice water” (the first rinse of water I use to wash my rice) to water my plants instead of using plain water. As if I didn't know that already. The next thing she was telling me to use worm composters to help with fertilizing my plants. Sometimes I go all Ally McBeal and tell her “Lady, my plants are thriving for a reason and I don't need you and your worm poop to help” but I won't do that for real. Because that's just mean. Any advice is welcome advice, right? Sometimes you need to just be humble about it even if you do know what's best for you. And yeah, like I said, she's just being nosy helpful.

Yay! Public Holiday!

Since tomorrow is a public holiday marking the installation of the new King (All Hail the King!), I have to say, that I am doing my best to be productive tomorrow. No more lazy days catching up on tv series. I'm determined to make full use of the day.

Fixing things that need to be fixed. Cleaning things that need to be cleaned (on top of my normal everyday chores). My wardrobe and the children's wardrobe needs some serious re-organizing. Put in new batteries in remote controls, toys, tools, etc. So I need to buy AA and AAA batteries (I don't think I have the need for an ls 14250 lithium battery, though). Old toys need to be boxed up and put away. Send things for recycling. Send old clothes for charity. I know I can do this on weekends, but weekends are my really lazy days. I don't even like cooking on weekends if I can help it. So it's gonna be a busy day tomorrow. I just hope I can get everything done.

And Just So You Know..

Referring to my previous post, another reason that attributed to my lack of online activity is the slow dying state of my laptop. I am in denial. I don't believe it's time to say goodbye to my lappy yet.. it still has life in her. It's survived with minimal problems for 5 years now, so it can't just die on me yet. It hangs a lot and I have to send it for reformatting, I'm sure. I just hope it's not the motherboard. 'Coz you all know if it's the motherboard, then it's just time I put it to sleep for good, right? It's not like I can find any cheap motherboards and replace it on my laptop, right? Or can I? I don't know. :(

Don't tell me that on top of a new phone, I need a new laptop too. And a vacation. And some new clothes. And a hot bod. And a new pair of running shoes. And the new iPad. ;)

And the list goes on...

Pinning Me Down

There's a lot of things I want to write about, but when it comes to actually working on writing about it, I just stare at the blank page for what seems like forever and I talk myself out of writing it. But it's not like my life is the life of a celebrity that you all are just dying to know what's up anyway, right?

As of right now, though, if you really want to know what I'm up to, I'm just busy with Pinterest. It's my new "Tumblr" and "Polyvore". It's another one of those. Easier to manage. If you're on it, follow me! :)
If you're not, drop me a line and I'll send you an invite! :)

Soccer Mom

Yesterday, was my son's school's annual PTA meeeting. I didn't make it last year 'coz I was occupied but I decided to go this year because there were some issues that I felt the need to address. There was a pretty good turnout, considering PTA meetings are not always very well received by parents. There were over 100 people in attendance. I've accompanied my mom to my younger sister's PTA meeting before and the turnout was so poor that by the time they chose the committee, they were still in need of members. It was that bad.

Anyways, to cut a long story short, the 2012/2013 PTA committee was chosen and guess what? I'm on the committee. I nominated myself because all the parents refused to speak up to nominate ANYONE. Yes, I'm not shame-faced to nominate myself. I think I have a lot of ideas to contribute to the school, I'm not working, I have ample time to keep myself occupied what with Allie in kindergarten. So basically, I feel like a soccer mom now. I seriously never felt that way until yesterday.

Oh well. Soccer mom pun soccer mom lah. What to do? But I don't have a mini-van (okay, I don't drive) and I refuse to wear mom jeans. Unless I can pull it off looking like this soccer mom. LOL!

The Domesticated Life

Oh wow. This is only my second post of the year and it's already approaching the 3rd week of Jan. I haven't been on Twitter or Facebook much either, but for what it's worth, I miss my online buddies.

I was just catching up with my buddy Ane yesterday and was telling her how moving to this new place of mine has made me so domesticated. Not that I wasn't before, but really, I can rival these aunty-aunty living on my block. I'm already up by 6.30am, do my morning prayers, get the kids ready, make breakfast, walk my son to school, then come home, and immediately start with the chores.. which includes...

wait for it... wait for it.....

brace yourselves.....

GARDENING!

I remember telling Marzie before that there's no way I'm gonna be doing any gardening and now...

YES. Time to EAT my words.

And not only am I gardening, I'm starting to become Madam Fix-alot too. Perhaps my husband is rubbing off on me more than usual, but I don't really need the husband to come to my rescue nowadays when I need some minor fixing done. My husband has everything from a hand drill to cutting tools and I'm beginning to appreciate the handyman in him even more.

When I was staying at my old small apartment, perhaps the small space made me so chillaxed that take my time going about things. Most probably I'd go back to sleep after sending my son to school and start only around 10am and take my own sweet time doing them too.

Anyways, if you can't tell, I'm happy in my new home. Now, I can't even fathom why I was sentimental about leaving my apartment.

Hey Big Spender

First of all, I want to say thanks to everyone for all their well wishes on the move to the new house. I really appreciate it.. and as for requests for the housewarming party.. well, I'll definitely think about it. I just have to rush back to KK to pick up the kids who are on their school holidays with their Nana. I haven't seen them in over 2 weeks and only this week are they beginning to miss their mommy and daddy. :(

Anyways, I've got a lot of things to do. Surprisingly, unpacking was much easier than packing. It only took me 2 days to unpack everything and get them in order. The night we moved, I already unpacked the kitchen and cooked! LOL!

I'm not gonna lie though.. it has been stressful and my skin was breaking out and I was developing ulcers.. Definitely STRESSED OUT!

The expenses of moving were also skyrocketing high and I have to think of the kids' school expenses next. Not to mention going back to KK expenses and everything else. My mom's friend here in KL did approach me and asked if I'm interested in Dietician or Nutritionist Jobs because he's in the health line and he definitely can use someone.

But me?? Dietician?? Hahahaha my idea of a balanced diet is a cookie in both hands. So it will definitely be a contradiction, no? ;) Buuuut, I really need the moolah right now. Like seriously, seriously.

Finally Moved!

Yay! I have finally moved into my new place! I'm so happy that everything the whole moving process is over.. and now the nightmare of unpacking begins!!

We moved yesterday afternoon and due to the amount of people using the storage elevator and the loading bay, we only got out of the place at night. Which meant we had to fix the beds and everything else quite late. We didn't eat the whole day and only ate dinner at 11pm.. and I had the MPSJ 10km race in the morning. Finally slept at 1.30am and really didn't feel like running in a couple of hours. That story, though will come later.

Anyways, I'm just happy that we're settling down into a new home but the movers sort of broke my ironing board in the process so now I need a new one. So if you guys know where I can get the best ironing boards, do let me know!

Will update more in a couple of days once I'm done unpacking. And Marzie, no.. I'm not starting gardening now.. hahahaha I'll leave that to the hubs. Everything I tanam, memang tak jadi! LOL!

Moving Out

I will be moving out by middle of next week and I just hope that the weather will let up a little. I can't imagine what it will be like if it were to rain like mad like it did the past few weeks. Our area at USJ 19 was flooded to the car door level on the road. The water rose so fast! Luckily, we didn't get stuck!

But still, I'm grateful that it's not snowing on our side of the world. If it were to snow here, I'd definitely have to get one of those MSR lightning ascent snowshoes to get around. Can you imagine that? I definitely don't want to go through that hassle.. since moving is already a hassle enough. So, that's another thing to be thankful for!
