Thankful Thursday: It's Raining, It's Pouring..

After the long hot dry spell all of last week and perhaps the previous weeks before that, I am so glad that it has begun to rain. It has been raining here in Subang thisweek, beginning on Tuesday and yesterday, it was raining (not heavily, but steadily) from noon all the way into the late evening. The air is fresher and cooler now. Just the way I like it. And for that, I am utterly grateful and I bet I'm not the only one? Hopefully we get some more rain today too!

Have you made your gratitude list today?

Thankful Thursday: My Gratitude List #8

My Thankful Thursday segment is a little late due to the frustrating internet connection I have at home. I was writing this last night but I wasn't able to post it. So anyways..

This week, I'm grateful for:

Coffee. Sometimes when you're stressed out and you just don't know where to resort to for that little pick me up, the answer is always coffee!

The little things in life. A smile from a stranger. A neighbour's helping hand. A hug from a friend. My children's spontaneous kisses. Beautiful quotes. A nice blog comment. A funny tweet. Smell of fresh laundry. A thank you. Great conversation. Passion. Fairy lights.... the list can go on forever.

Gift from my best friend, Moose. Haven't even finished Anna Karenina yet!  Haha
Books. Need I say more?

My internet connection. It's been acting up this past week. I know I always take my internet connection for granted so maybe after this it'll behave after I show how grateful I am for it. haha

Well, that's about it for this week's entry. To all my friends celebrating Chinese New Year, I hope you all have a wonderful time with your family. May this year be even more prosperous than the last! Gong Xi Fa Cai!! Enjoy your holidays, be safe and be good! ;)

Thanfkul Thursday: My Gratitude List #7

Silent gratitude isn't much use to anyone. ~G.B. Stern

This week, I am grateful for:

New friends. I'm the type of person who likes to be around people and make new acquaintances. And I like it when acquaintances become friends that I enjoy spending time with. I have met a lot of new friends over the course of these few years of living in KL and I'm grateful for that. That also includes all my blogging buddies. I wonder when we'll get to meet up again for another gathering.

Our national Malaysian football team. Even though Malaysia lost to Syria last night, our team has a lot to be proud of. Defeating Indonesia earlier this week at the SEA Games was a big highlight in the careers of our Malaysian team and I'm grateful that not only our team has made me a fan of Malaysian football but also 'coz it brings unity among all the Malaysians -- young and old. I wish them all the best against Bahrain in their upcoming match. Hitam kuning all the way!! :)

Contest wins. Allie and Buddy both won their first contest that they joined. Allie won a pair of Barney slippers from an Angelina Ballerina magazine contest while Buddy won a Bumblebee figurine from the Transformers Dark of the Moon collection from the Transformers magazine contest. It was a really cool contest win and they were beyond psyched. I, on the other hand, scored invites to the Gala Premiere for Aladdin the Musical and I'm totally excited. Also, I am now awaiting some official results for a contest I joined.. and I hope I'll be able to win that contest too! So I am really grateful for all the rezeki that I have been given, whether big or small.

Moving. I hate packing but I am grateful that I will be moving out of my little abode into a bigger house which is more comfortable and much needed what with my little ones growing up so fast. I know I'll miss all the convenience my current place has to offer but I know I have to move on to a different phase in my life and I welcome the change. :)

There are a couple of people in my life that have been so wonderful to me and I'm thinking of getting them some wonderful thank you gift baskets. Sometimes we do feel grateful but we just don't show it. So what better way to show my gratitude, right?

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. ~William Arthur Ward

To all my friends celebrating Thanksgiving, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and a wonderful weekend to all of you!

Thankful Thursday: My Gratitude List #6

He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has. ~Epictetus

This week I am thankful for:

Steve Jobs. The epitome of a modern day Einstein. You just know that person is rare gem when people who he has never met nor that he knows exist, grieves much after his death. I'm not talking a couple of people but millions. Steve Jobs was a rarity. He inspired people and left his mark in this world and left a legacy in a shape of a bitten apple. My kids don't know who he is, but he has affected their lives so much with the founding of Pixar. I know I rely on my iPod and iTunes to get me through the day when I'm down, uninspired or just plain bored. In fact, while I write this, my iTunes is on.

Did you also know that it was Steve Jobs who incorporated the serif and san serif typefaces that we take so granted on our computers? Yeah, he took a calligraphy class in college and incorporated what he learned into the Macintosh.. the first computer with beautiful typography -- which Windows then followed suit.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle. - Steve Jobs

He left his mark on our desks, our ears, our hands, our sight.. and half the time we don't even realize it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I am utterly grateful to the man in Issey Miyake black turtlenecks and jeans, for enhancing our lives with knowledge, technology, inspiration and beauty.. He is definitely up there with Edison, Newton and Einstein in my book. Rest in Peace, Mr. Jobs.

Gratitude. Gratitude is in and of itself a way of life. Without it, we will just be selfish, righteous, indignant and insolently proud people. I can't even imagine what life would be like filled with people like that.

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. ~William Arthur Ward

Google Maps. At this day and age, I honestly can't take it when someone says, "I can't meet you at 'so and so' because I don't know where it is". Only God knows, how much it really irks me. There's hardly a place these days that you can't find off gps online.

I can safely say that there have been at least 10 locations in the past 2 years, weddings, housewarmings, events, etc that I had no idea where the location of a venue was (not an area I'm familiar with) but all I had to do was get directions from Google Map. If you are savvy enough to have a blog, FB account or a Twitter or all of the above, then there's no excuse whatsoever to not be able to make it anywhere. If you say you don't know where it is, well, you're just plain freakin' lazy and there's no excuse for laziness.

I've got some more on my list that just has to wait for next week because it's already almost 4.30am here and I've got only 2 hours to nap before I have to get my son up and ready for school! Ooops! Anyways, if you want, you can read more of what I've been grateful for in my previous posts.

Thank you,

Thankful Thursday: My Gratitude List #5

There is no such thing as gratitude unexpressed. If it is unexpressed, it is plain, old-fashioned ingratitude. ~Robert Brault

This week I am thankful for:

Time. I always feel that I don't have enough hours in the day to do what I need to do yet I am thankful that I have any time at all. There are parents who don't get to see their kids the whole day until they get back from work and it isn't even a choice for them. Most mothers would love to have the luxury of staying at home with their kids all day but they just can't afford to.

I'm grateful that I still have that choice. Granted, I don't go traveling or buy fancy stuff, new clothes and new gadgets. But like my husband told me today, "You have me and the kids". And he's absolutely right! There might come a day when I have to succumb to the economic downturn and get myself a job.. but for now, I'm grateful for all the time that I have.

Music. Besides prayers, music is my refuge.. It allows me to sink myself in it and just let my emotions flow through it with it's rhythms and borrowed words. I'm just so grateful for it and the geniuses behind all the beautiful symphonies.

Music expresses feeling and thought, without language; it was below and before speech, and it is above and beyond all words. ~Robert G. Ingersoll

Beauty of Nature. During the recent Hari Raya, my mom and I stood at her balcony after Subuh prayers and waited for the sunrise. From my mom's balcony, you have a direct view to Mt. Kinabalu and that day, there wasn't a cloud in the sky which made Mt. Kinabalu look even more so majestic surrounded by the vivid spectrum of colors from the sunrise. It was a sight to behold!

This picture wasn't taken by me, by the way. But when I saw this pic at Wikimedia, that was just as how I remembered it.. At that time, I was so enthralled and captivated by the beauty that I didn't even bother to move from my spot to take a camera.

The beauty of it still stays with me even as I'm surrounded by high rises, highways and development here in the city. However, the memory of it makes me inadvertently cringe at the sight of factory buildings and workshops outside MY window. LOL!

I would love to continue with my list, but as seeing as it's 2.30am right now and my son has school in the morning, I think I'll just end it here. Till next week's Thankful Thursday! :)

I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder. ~G.K. Chesterton

p/s: I will not repeat what has been listed in my previous gratitude lists, so before you go wondering why I'm not grateful for God, my family, friends, etc.. please check out my other gratitude lists! Thanks!

Thankful Thursday: Gratitude List #4

I haven't been doing a lot of my Thankful Thursday posts lately. Not because I haven't been feeling grateful/thankful or anything. I still do write down my gratitude list in my personal notebook. I just don't post it up here. Mainly because I don't really keep track of the days. Until half an hour ago, someone tweeted that it's Friday, did I realize that we have now reached the weekend. Crazy, huh, how time flies by without us realizing it?

So just in case you missed the first 3 parts of my gratitude list, they can be found here. Gratitude List #1, #2 and #3.

This week I would like to be grateful for:

My good fortune and good luck. I believe that I won't have nothing if it were not for God's blessings, so I would first and foremost like to thank God for all his blessings.

Last week alone, I received 4 tickets to The Social Network. 2 tickets I won from Nuffnang, and 2 tickets from TimeOutKL. The first 2 were for screenings on 22 November 2010 which I attended with Debbie. While the other 2, I passed them to my sister and her bf on 30 November 2010. Oh, I also got 2 movie passes for Tangled (which I haven't used yet!)

I also received an email a couple of days ago that I won RM100 worth of dining vouchers from Frames Cafe @ Sunway Pyramid from TimeOutKL! I love you, TOKL! :D

Last week I had also received invitations for free dinner in conjunction with the launch of the new Tony Roma's outlet at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng! Yay!!

Not forgetting yesterday, it was announced that I won 2nd place in a blog contest hosted by my funky blogger friend, David Funk. I joined not with the intention of bagging a prize but to support my friend's blog and giveaway contest.. and I still walked away with the prize of $25 and 2000 EC credits! :D Thank you, David!! :D

Zuzana and Freddy. I am grateful for Zuzana and Freddy, the site owners and founders of Bodyrock.Tv. They have made me into a diligent and hardworking "bodyrocker" and I have gained a lot of strength, high fitness level and lost some weight in the process. Their easy-to-follow home workout videos coupled with their diet and fitness tips give me much motivation and willpower to keep going. Hopefully, I will achieve my fitness goal in the near future and maintain my lifestyle as it is now. It's been 7 weeks now working out using my own workout videos as well as theirs and I haven't felt this GOOD in a looong time!

CSS codes and Photoshop. In case you haven't noticed, My Sweet Escape has gotten a major facelift. I created the header using some items from my collection of digital scrapbooks and I put it together with photoshop. The theme I was going for was "Things That Make Me Happy". The rest of the layout was also tweaked by me and lost it's original look -- thank God that my understanding of CSS codes have improved lately since I designed my entertainment blog, Reel Madhouse.. so, this was actually a breeze to do.

My internet connection. I still love my P1 W1max connection despite many people complaining about it. I don't have many complaints about it and it's been pretty good throughout these past 2 years that I've been using it. Without my internet connection, there's so many things I wouldn't be able to do. I could live without my phone but not without my internet, truth be told. So for that, I am grateful!

If you have things to be grateful for, join me in Thankful Thursdays brought to you specially by Grace Alone, Women Taking A Stand and Spiritually Unequal Marriage.

The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings! ~Henry Ward Beecher

Thankful Thursday: My Gratitude List #3

I know I haven't been posting my Thankful Thursday segments in a while.. believe me, it's not because I haven't been thankful for my blessings. Truth be told, I just can't seem to keep track of the days! They just go by sooooo fast!!

Speaking of time, after more than 2 long months, the trapped Chilean miners have been rescued!! All 33 of them.. unharmed!! So like my buddy Jacq, I too, wanna be grateful for this moment. After all these horrific news we've been hearing, this is one of those great moments that will be remembered for a long time!

Esteban Rojas, 44, gives a prayer of thanks. He was the 18th miner to be rescued.

So here goes my gratitude list for this week:

Chile Miners Rescue Team. I'm grateful to every single person involved in the rescue mission of all the trapped miners. According to reports during those first 17 days, the miners ate only two spoonfuls of tuna, half a glass of milk and half a biscuit every 48 hours. For the full story on how they were trapped and how they survived, check out this article.

Health insurance. I am grateful that my husband's company has us covered for hospitalization bills. As you all know, my son was hospitalized on the 1st of Oct due to pneumonia.

After spending 4 days and 3 nights in a private room with chest physiotherapy every day, let's just say, I am VERY VERY grateful that my son, has regained his health back (although he has a lot of weight to gain back) and also for the fact that we are covered by health insurance.

Community Service. Nuffnang together with Unicef has launched a campaign to raise awareness on child abuse! If you check out my right sidebar and see those "raised hands" please take a while to click on the ad to join the cause. I will NOT be paid, for any clicks, mind you.. and that will be up until the end of November. So if you're a Nuffnanger, why don't you do your part in joining the "Stop Child Abuse" campaign as well? Together, let's make the world a slightly better place for us and our children.

This week's Thankful Thursday has been pretty emotional with all that has been happening.. but now that the first half of October is gone, let's hope for a much better second half. Read more on my gratitude lists, if you wish to.. :)

Thankful Thursday: My Gratitude List #2

God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say "thank you?" ~William A. Ward

There are many things I am thankful and grateful for, so I'll break them down in lists. Check out last week's Gratitude List.. Meanwhile, this week I will continue to be thankful and grateful for:

Love. Love for God, love for family, love for your significant other, love for others, love for life... It does make the world a better place.

Blog Assignments. During this slow economy where opportunities are very scarce, I am grateful that I still receive some jobs hence still be able to make money from blogging. Even the ones about epson tm-t88iv.

Twitter. I love that I wake up in the morning to see many "good morning" tweets from friends. Also I love how the amazing people that I follow tweet some really wonderful quotes that give my day a good headstart with all their positivity and good energy.

The Body Shop Vitamic C Skin Boost. I recently bought this item and it has done wonders for my skin. My skin is more supple and smooth and makes me have a natural glow.

Peanut Butter and Jelly. I love myself a good PB &J sandwich.. it's the perfect comfort food.. ever since I was a little girl. Anything that reminds me of my childhood makes me happy!

Bloggers that create memes. For all those brilliant people who came up with Music Monday, Random Tuesday Thoughts, Wordless Wednesday, Thankful Thursday, Food Friday and the lot... well, I thank you all for giving me something to blog about and look forward to each week!

Thankful Thursday: My Gratitude List #1

"The road of life is hard, let us count our blessings as we travel this road…"

I'd like to be thankful and grateful for:

God. For giving me an extra day to spend with my loved ones and for always showering me with His blessings and silver linings even when I don't realize it..

My doting husband. He knows I'm fasting and although I told him I'm very much so capable of doing my daily chores, he insists on taking the kids off my hands so I can have some alone time, do my work, do the things I want without having to tire myself with the children. Not that I even mind. But still, it's nice to have some quiet time to myself and the children can spend some quality time with him on his day off.

My loving family. My mom with her lovely tweets and messages to me through Facebook. (Yes, my mom has a Twitter and FB account). My sisters for their stories and laughter. My older brothers for their awesomeness. My children for their absolute unconditional love for me even though I'm not the World's Greatest Mom.

My laptop. Without which, I won't be able to tweet work and earn extra income through my blogs. I got it in December of 2007 and it still runs smoothly as ever. Which is a good thing, because I don't have laptop insurance. LOL!

My friends. Online and offline. Because they keep me sane. They're wonderfully hilarious, and come up with stories that make me laugh,  make me cry and they're always there to tell me that no matter how hard things get, things will turn out okay as long as you keep your courage and faith.
